25/07/12-Volunteers Required For 11th August
On 11th August, the County will be moving the County mats and equipment from the Devonshire Health and Racquets Centre in Plymouth to the ISCA Centre in Exeter. Although we have vehicles to move the equipment what we do need is volunteers to help load the vehicles at Plymouth and to help unload the vehicles at Exeter. 13/06/12-New Venue Announced
It can be confirmed that we will be changing venue for the up and coming season. We would like to apologise again for the lateness in confirming the venue and next years dates, however we have been struggling to get the dates that were needed. We are now in a position to confirm that next year all the County organised Competitions will be held at ISCA Centre in Exeter.
Devon’s Inter County Competition home games will also be played at ISCA with the exception of Devon v. Somerset, which will be held at Wonford Sports Hall in Exeter.
This still means that the County and National Competitions will be merged together, and the adjustments to the competitions that were announced at the AGM will still be happening. The diary will be uploaded onto the website in the next couple of days and before the week is finished the Competition entry forms will be despatched to all club secretaries/contacts.
30/05/12-Statement Regarding The 2012/13 Diary
Due to unforseen circumstances the County is unable to confirm the dates for the coming season. We would like to apologise for this and we are hopeful that this will be sorted in the near future.
03/05/12-National Club Championship
The ESMBA have announced details of this season's National Club Championships which was last year won by the Norfolk Club Bob Carter Centre. The competition will be held on 29th July at Bromsgrove Indoor Bowls Club. For more infomation and an entry form please click here.
27/04/12-2012/13 Competition Format Changes
As announced at the AGM there will be several changes to next years competitions. The National and County Competitions will be merged into one single event. Players/teams that wish to enter the Nationals will have to mark on the entry forms that they wish to enter. It is important to note that no one is forced to enter the Nationals if they do not wish to do so. The National Mixed Fours will however remain a separate event.
This will of course mean that if you enter a team into the Nationals it will be the same team in the County. It is important to remind members that you are not restricted to playing with your fellow club members, you can enter these competitions with any DCSMBA registered player.
Because we have to inform the ESMBA of our national results in advance, the County Finals will now take place on the day immediately after the semi-finals. Therefore next year there will not be a Finals day and there will only be an AGM/Trophy Presentation at the end of the season. Because there is an extra game to be played the sign in time will be reverting back to 9am.
The rule on substitutions will also be changing. A substitute may be used, however the Competition Secretary will need to be informed and agree to the change and reasoning. Once a substitution has been made, the substituted player will not be able to return. This will be in the Competition Rules and will be sent out at the start of the season and will also be found here on the website.
From next season the number of finalists in the County Team Championship will also be changing from twelve to six. There will now be two finalists from each area making the six and there will be two groups of three, with the group winners contesting the final. The past few years several clubs have qualified with a bye, and this should ensure that everyone have to play at least one other club in order to qualify for the final.
There are some final adjustments to next season’s diary of events being made at present, however it should be released in the next couple of weeks. All the details of the competition changes will be sent to club secretaries when the next season’s competition entry forms are sent out in the next couple of months.

On Saturday 12 teams from around Devon converged on Plymouth to compete in this seasons Team Championship. The 12 teams were split into four groups of three and a round robin took place with the winner of each group progressing to the semi finals.
The winner of group 1 was Exeter Nomads and they faced Shebbear who won group 2. Exeter Nomads produced a confident performance and won all four disciplines. The other semi final saw group 3 winners Yarnscombe play group 4 winners Beer Mariners and Beer progressed after winning the Singles, Triples and Fours.
In the Final Exeter Nomads raced into an early lead, when they won the Singles 16-3 and the Pairs 7-6. However Beer responded by taking the Triples 11-4, and completed the comeback by winning the Fours 13-6. This meant it was all level with two disciplines each won and total shots equal, therefore it was left to the Fours to play an extra end. After a tight end Beer were able to secure the shot they needed to win and secure the title.

22/11/11-British Isles Review
England had a very successful weekend at the British Isles, which were this year held in Scotland. Devon trio Michael Ivings, Lee Toleman and James Trott were joined by Bronagh Malone (North Yorkshire) to form one of the four rinks in the Team Event. There was only one game in the Team Event for England on the Saturday and that was against the Isle of Man who were comfortably beaten. When the scores from all four rinks were totaled up England won by a massive score of 90-9.
Lee Toleman, Michael Ivings, James Trott & Bronagh Malone, one of the four rinks
It was an early start on the Sunday where England faced Scotland and it was a much tighter affair, although England still managed to win 47-31. The next game was against Wales, and Wales came out fighting and just about edged it, England eventually losing 38-36. The last game of the day England faced current champions Ireland and knew that a 5 shot victory should be enough. It was a tight start to all four rinks with Ireland taking an early lead. However as the game wore on England grew stronger and a 43-22 victory was secured. The result ensured that England won the Team Event for only the second time in their history and the first since 1992.
The England rinks with their trophies
England performed strongly in the individual events too. Dom Reed (West Sussex) won the Singles and Darren Beardmore, Alan Jones and Nick Tideswell (Shropshire) won the Triples. England also picked up the Ronnie McDermott Bowl which is awarded to the team who performed the best throughout the whole weekend. More photos from the weekend can we found on our Facebook page.

20/09/11-Bowls Development Alliance Announce Bring A Friend Day
The Bowls Development Alliance is excited to announce the launch of the inaugural Bring a Friend Day!
On Saturday, 29th October the BDA are running the first of two national “Bring a Friend” days to coincide with the start of the indoor and outdoor seasons. Potters Holidays have generously supported the first event by supplying 2 bowling breaks, each for 4 people to the fantastic Potters Leisure Resort in Norfolk.
The Bring a Friend Day is designed to encourage current members to bring non-bowlers to their local club to enjoy an informal, fun day of bowling and socialising. It is an opportunity for all clubs to show off not just the fun and enjoyment the game of Bowls can offer but also the social benefits being a member of a club can bring to an individual. The Bring a Friend Day is an excellent opportunity for all clubs, of any code, to promote their club and recruit non-bowlers to play our great game and become important members of their new clubs.
To register to host a Bring a Friend Day event on the 29th October please go to www.bowlsdevelopmentalliance.com/bringafriend.
For further information, or if you have any questions, please email info@bowlsdevelopmentalliance.com or call 01664 484926.
There is also a flyer produced by the BDA which provides details of the Bring a Friend Day event, and this can be found here. Finally more infomation about the Potters Leisure Resort can be found here.
15/09/11-Woodbridge Trophy
The ESMBA have announced details of this seasons Woodbridge Trophy, which is to be held on Sunday 2nd October at Kempston Indoor Bowls Club in Bedford. The competition is for rinks of four with all players being under 18. For more details see the entry form which can be downloaded here.
07/09/11-County Competitions Draw Details
The draw details for the County Competitions have now all been sent out to the relevant club secretaries. The draw infomation as well as the competition rules can all be found on the Competitions page.
Please take note of the competition rules and in particular to rule 6, which states that if bowls stickers are used then all players in any team must have identical stickers on each side of all woods. Also due to a lack of entrants in the County Triples this year, it has been decided that the County Triples Preliminary Final Day will consist of 16 teams and not the usual 32 teams.
From this season the County Committee have decided to remove the County Points system that has been used in previous seasons as it was deemed it did not give the County managers enough flexibility when picking the County teams. Therefore from this season players will not be awarded county points for reaching certain stages of the County Competitions. From the 2012/13 season there will be a selection committee comprising of the two County managers and the Area Reps and these will pick the two County teams.
